Hi everybody. I'm on a pretty tight budget, but I saw a YouTube video on the Harbor Freight 9 Function MD. I thought, Well, you can't beat that for $50, so I bought one today. My 10 year old son and I spent two hours cleaning out the back yard... Wifey said "We didn't need that nice backyard anyway."

All told, 61 cents toward recouping my cost. But the time with my son was priceless!

Oh, the MD is decent, but I couldn't get the pinpointer function to work for anything. It just made it squeal like a pig all over everything. Using the highest sensitivity and iron discrimination.

Oh, and I also learned to take off my wedding band and wristwatch before detecting.

And steel toed shoes are not the best idea. We chased phantom targets all over the yard until we figured that one out. Lol.

Welcome, that squeal while pinpointing is a tool, the highest pitch is generally when the target is centered under the coil.
