Hi- I'm an archaeologist in Williamsburg, Virginia, working on my dissertation. I use detectors mostly for research and contract work these days. Actually, I got into archaeology partly because of detecting- having read various of the old THing books of Charles Garrett, Mel Fisher, etc. and subscribing to Western & Eastern Treasures in the late 90s- combined with lots of National Geographics, etc. I had a couple budget machines (Radio Shack and a used Groundhog) and a then-new Garrett CXIII GMH and a Tinytech probe. I still have the last two and we use a mid-range Tesoro in survey work (battlefields, farmsteads, logging camps, etc.). I'll probably be looking for another machine soon for surveys of my dissertation sites (19th-century stoneware potteries).
