Got up early & packed our lunch as the new land is a massive 45mins away
We only had one field left that was not in crop, it was huge. We started nearest the old roman road without much joy. I did my usual bloodhound thing & went to sniff out a good area. Dad was left behind. I found an area which had slightly darker soil, 1 piece of pot & 1 bit of lead. That was enough for me to start gridding. By lunch time I had a 1675 Charles II Penny (my first ever) & 3 roman coins. Dad at the other end of the field saw my universal sign for 'come over' when I was gridding. He had found nothing & we stopped for lunch, more importantly I had found where we were to consentrate our efforts.
After lunch the Roman coins flowed & Dad had two roman silver before I got my first. Then we had to decided to grid left or right. We both agreed left & got many more items:
28 roman bronze coins - most in 1 day this year.
4 Roman silver - Most in 1 day EVER (Beat last years 8 & made our 10 target)
(Caracalla AD195-217 & 3 clipped Siliqua of the 4th century)
Part of a Roman steel yard weight (balance arm)
Medieval Sword Chape
Roman Bronze Knife Terminal of MARS - no.4 on my wish list (3rd item I have found off my top 6 wish list all this year!)
