We do have about 30 square miles of land (more than the biggest UK Club). However, much of it is pretty poor, we just make it look easier than it is

PS. Although recently we mostly only target & gain permission for productive land.

I've seen an Ed I Penny (circa 1300) found over your side, so it could be possible, clearly not lost in that period though.
