Today Ridley and I hit an old farm that was a brand new hunting site for us. I scored this spot through my ad on CraigsList. It turned out to be a great spot for both of us so far. The family has owned this land for over 130 years. It has great potential with more land than the Ponderosa. The homestead main house (pictured) was built in 1877. Across the driveway there was an old post office/general store. It was picked up and moved to the other side of the field, and is now a storage building. There were two other old houses on this huge property also. Their foundations are all that remain out in the fields with cows. The old well in the picture is dated 1935.
Now for the finds:

*Ridley found a great old coin, but you will have to read his post to see what he found.
Hint: There is a picture of him below standing by a green road sign. Does the sign give you a hint? ;D

*My best coin today was this 1900 IH. Yeah, Baby!!!
It was about 8" deep in front of the house. I almost gave up digging the signal. "Thank you" Vibra Probe for helping with the recovery! :D
This is only my 3rd IH to date, and actually my most modern one.

*Out in the cow fields by the old foundation, I dug up the old oval shaped tag you see. It has an ivy/flowery design in it. It looks very old.
Does anyone know what this is?

*Many relics, mainly in the fields.

*Wheats: 1920 , 1941 , 2x 1945 , 2x 1946 , 1951D , 1952D , 1954D.
*1941 Nickel

*A shotgun headstamp with "Sportload - J.C. Higgins".
Anyone know the age of this one?

*A piece of lead w/patina that looks like a possible CW era bullet?

Although it was hot as all get-out, we stayed most of the day and got a taste of what we can expect when we return next time.
Thanks for looking,
MM

Thanks Merf. You got that right. I stayed out in the sun so long today that I have become an official Redneck. :o
If Ridley finds the silver again next time, he's going to be riding one of those cows home! ;D

Great looking site and some SUPER finds!

Good stuff. IH's are great as all the other interesting stuff. Those old farms are great places. Looks like you have another winner. I saw Ridleys coin - that dirty dog! ;) :D

Today it wasn't that hot here in Ohio but the sun was strong. Wears you out. :P

Great Finds And That's A Great Idea Posting An Ad On Craigslist! How Did You Word The Ad?

Bookfisher,
Here is my original link:

http://forum.treasurenet.com/index.php/topic,91057.0.html

Give it a try. I have two permissions now, and as you can see on the link, others have had great success too.
Good luck.

Miner, My Hats Off To You! Great Idea! Your Wording In The Ad Is Perfect! I Was Actually Thinking Of Putting An Ad In The Local Pennysaver, But Craigslist Is So Much Better (and free) Since I Have Two Machines (an MXT and a Prizm II) If The Land Owner Is Also Interested In Hunting I Could Let Him Use The Prizm.

Congrats on a good day!! Love finding those Indians!!

Well done looks like lots of digs & more to come :)

Thats one nice huntin spot MM!
Nice finds. Good luck on future hunts there, I know you'll find silver there....

Keep safe...

You are in Benson N.C. !

Spitfire,
You are close. We hunted close to Benson. On the way home we spotted that "Old Barbour" road sign, and thought it would make the perfect picture for Ridley's Barber dime find.
We rode around some more looking for an "Indian Head" road, but couldn't find one. We did find a "Clad Court" though. ;D
Are you in Benson?
