Today Ridley and I hit an old farm that was a brand new hunting site for us. I scored this spot through my ad on CraigsList. It turned out to be a great spot for both of us so far. The family has owned this land for over 130 years. It has great potential with more land than the Ponderosa. The homestead main house (pictured) was built in 1877. Across the driveway there was an old post office/general store. It was picked up and moved to the other side of the field, and is now a storage building. There were two other old houses on this huge property also. Their foundations are all that remain out in the fields with cows. The old well in the picture is dated 1935.
Now for the finds:
*Ridley found a great old coin, but you will have to read his post to see what he found.
Hint: There is a picture of him below standing by a green road sign. Does the sign give you a hint?
*My best coin today was this 1900 IH. Yeah, Baby!!!
It was about 8" deep in front of the house. I almost gave up digging the signal. "Thank you" Vibra Probe for helping with the recovery!
This is only my 3rd IH to date, and actually my most modern one.
*Out in the cow fields by the old foundation, I dug up the old oval shaped tag you see. It has an ivy/flowery design in it. It looks very old.
Does anyone know what this is?
*Many relics, mainly in the fields.
*Wheats: 1920 , 1941 , 2x 1945 , 2x 1946 , 1951D , 1952D , 1954D.
*1941 Nickel
*A shotgun headstamp with "Sportload - J.C. Higgins".
Anyone know the age of this one?
*A piece of lead w/patina that looks like a possible CW era bullet?
Although it was hot as all get-out, we stayed most of the day and got a taste of what we can expect when we return next time.
Thanks for looking,
MM
