Metal Detecting
Hi Stream Dreamer
welcome from a fellow newbie. I was wondering why you would want to part with your fly rods. I would never even think of it. I find it almost blasphemous.
I'll let you in on a little secret - this last fall I went through all the crap that I had laying around my property and had enough metal scrap to bring in over $110. Then once or twice a week I would go out the evening, before garbage day, and pick scrap metal. I made enough in five weeks to have enough cash to get 2 detectors for the wife and I.
I got an ace 250 for my wife and a tesoro compadre for myself.
Just an idea - best of luck.
Keep the fly rods - fish the stream - then grab the treasure.
Have fun, Woody

No..I'm not that crazy to sell all of my fly rods! Just the ones I wasn't using. I figure I would put the cash into a MD and at least not look at them sitting in the corner. I can't wait to buy the Ace 250 and hit some spots I have seen while on my fishing trips.

I do know where your coming from. Being new to detecting myself, I can reflect to areas like Freemans creek, in PA, and the upper Mohawk river, in NY. Thinking back to the potential of relics of these areas is nothing short of remarkable. But, at that time I was more concerned with matching the hatch or mending the line to get the most natural drift for my nymph presentation. My problem is that my wife doesn't enjoy the fishing aspect, but does enjoy the historical value of a good hunt with the metal detector. I have my sentiment towards my fly gear - every rod and reel have a specific purpose that I guess I will never be able to part with.
I wish you the best of endeavors in both hobbies and hope that you share your results with us - I always enjoy a few fish pics and stories too.

Hello and welcome to the forum!

Woody, believe me I have a fly fishing addiction. I never thought I would say that I had too many fly rods but like I said I can use the money to get into MD. I have been looking at this site for about a month and have watched a lot of videos and I am really itching to try this hobby. When I do get my first treasure I will post. Thanks for the friendly welcome.

welcome, good luck hunting,
