Hello from Manitoba, Canada! Before I tell about myself- I got the treasure net app for the iPhone, figuring out how to use the app but think i have most of it covered.

Anyways, I live in southwestern manitoba. My interest is in the native history of the area as well as the fur trade. I've recently renewed a childhood interest of Indian artifacts that I inherited from my dad. He has a decent collection and I've found a few things as well.

We live in an area called the Souris Plains which has had a rich history. Quite a few forts and trading posts were built along the Souris river, as well as the Assiniboine river which is also close by.

The Assiniboine were the main group of people who lived in the area. They were nomadic and hunted bison. They were also active in the fur trade. http://vantagepoints.ca/stories/assiniboine/

Everything in our collection has been found near the towns of Hartney, Lauder, Elgin and Souris in Manitoba. Mostly broken points and scrapers. we have acquired a few grooved hammer stones/mauls. We have some knives too. A lot of the material is Knife River flint.

We also have an artifact my dad found in the 80's which is quite interesting. A brown, roughly rectangular cube shape stone with 4 flat sides. Each of the 4 sides has 2 depressions pounded into it so were thinking its some type of grinding stone. We took it to an archaeologist and he didn't know what it was.

I'm living in Brandon manitoba now and once the snow melts I hope to go out "looking" at some spots along the Assiniboine River near the city.

That's an impressive collection!

Welcome to the site. You have a great start and what sounds like great prospects in your area.

We all hope to see more.

Thanks, Pard.

I agree a nice collection. It is fun to renew old hobbies. We look forward to seeing the finds and material from your area. Feel free to share any copper or fur trade stuff you have here as well. Welcome aboard.

:hello: Welcome Neighbor!

You should show us some of those beautiful artifacts with a little closer picture. That one artifact that your dad found may have been used to grind up ochre or for grinding up certain herbs.

Also looks like a nice Oxbow on the top shelf, of the first photo. Cool! :icon_thumright:

Indian Welcome.webp Awesome collection!

I'll try to get some close up pics as soon as I can. I had time last night butI'm busy today and head back to Brandon tonight. If I have time today ill take a few more pictures but if not then it'll be maybe next weekend. Sorry to keep you in suspense!

Beautiful pieces! Thanks for sharing !
