We only found this spot this year just after the spring Wheat was drilled. Today we gridded the whole area on the easy to work stubble. (6 hours to me, 5 hours to Cru'Dad) This site was in the next field to the Roman Lion Site & was kind of an odd shape of coin scatter & it had very few of the usual settlement signs. At least now it's another one complete until a deep plough - tick.
9 Roman Bronze Coins
16-17th C Thimble
Snake Head Bracelet piece (Roman)
Hammered Halfpenny of Edward III
Hammered Penny of Charles I
Both hammered fell to the Deus & are in pretty good nick, the Charles is the best of its type for my album.
The surprise was the Brass Dupondius of a new Emperor we need - Lucius Verus, AD161-69 - Served in a joint reign with Marcus Aurelius. He died of a stroke at an early age of 38. The reverse shows the 2 Emperors holding hands - Rome Mint.
A hot but worthwhile day.
