Got my new Sand Shark onto the beach, and into the Atlantic today for the first time and WOW!!!! This machine blows me away. I have used Minelab GPX machines for years hunting for gold nuggets in the Arizona deserts and mountains, so I'm no stranger to Pulse Induction or having to dig to China for a target - but man! My very first target sang out like an Opera Star and guess what? It was 17" deep! Yep, a pull tab. I didn't find ANYTHING shallower than 12", so I am guessing the VLF guys cleaned the beach up pretty good over the winter. Going to try to upload a couple of shots. I have all the confidence in the world that if there is someting there up to and including 2-feet deep, I am going to find it with this machine - Woo-Hoo! - Terry

Looking great Terry , glad to see you got to get out and hunt the beach !
That new machine is one awesome detector that is for sure !

Got back on the beach at 7:00am this morning - unfortunately the tide was coming in. Tested my new waders and they really kept me warm and dry, but.. Surf detecting is not as easy as it looks! I'm learning to balance and pinpoint, balance and dig - what a trip! I will say that the trash digging goes WAY down in the water. There was a 40-minute stretch with no signals at all! I kept checking to see if I had it balanced right with the scoop. It would start to "see" it at about 20" so I was working just fine! Met some old timers and had some good conversations. All in all, a great morning at the beach!

Surf hunting is not easy unless your hunting flat surf.....Battling the waves to recover a target in between swells or waves takes practice, and not losing the target after your hit by a wave takes practice...

Good luck.... :icon_thumright:

Thank's TH! Well, I broke my cherry today that is for sure! Battling waves and reading swells, and as you say, trying to pinpoint and get the scoop on the target before that BIG WAVE comes.... Timing is everything, and I ain't got it yet! Scoop wasn't empty today but it sure didn't catch enough to pay for the Ben-Gay I will need for my upper body tomorrow - LOL!

Ibuprofin helps....Not sure how you hunt, but I use a harness attached to my detector.... It will take some time for your body to get use to it.....Most of my hunts are 4-6 hours with some 8 hours or longer.....

I have been working out with aerobics and weights at the gym 4-5 days a week for the last 4+ months and that helps.........Then again it may be I am so sore from the weight lifting that I just don't feel the pain from the water hunting....... :laughing7:

The only weight I wanna lift is getting my body out of bed. :laughing7:

LOL, but I have a sexy young wife to keep up with....

Two old guys bump into each other in the supermarket.. "Sorry!" says the first guy, "I'm looking for my wife." Second guy says, "Me to, what does yours look like?" First guy says, "She's 25, large breasts, has red hair and is wearing short-shorts. What does yours look like?" Second guy says "Who cares? Let's look for yours!"

Good start!

How did you find the weight of the machine mounted under your elbow?

Perfect for me Smudge! It really feels completely balanced, and allows me to sweep flat and low longer and more comfortabley than mounted below the handhold. I suggest you experiment with it set up this way. The GPX Minelabs are set up this way, so I guess I just set it up the way I'm used to it. I may try the chest mount at some point as well, but this set up is very good - for me. - T
