Hello all,,,
It's been awhile since my last confession, ;D I have been lurking ( a little ), just haven't had the time to post much. I hope everyone is doing OK. I was hunting one of my favorite sites, that I have pounded to death, and had a guy come up to me and say, " Do you ever find anything good?". I just smiled and said, "Not as much as I would like to but, ya, I do find some goodies every now and then. He then ask me if I would be interested in knowing where an old ball diamond used to sit. I said sure and he started to tell me the location. Before he could even complete his first sentence he said, "Why don't you just follow me over there, it would be a lot easier to simply show you." Normally I would have refused, not wanting to go somewhere with a staranger, but I had seen the guy many times in the past and he had always waved as he went by and I also knew where he worked in the area. The site ended up being just 500 yards on the other side of a fence that I had always thought to be off limits. It was a field that I had thought about trying to get into for quite sometime now and I was planning on trying to get permission to hunt it this summer.

The ball diamond used to sit in one corner of a field that is probably 5 to 6 acres in size and looks to have not been touched in years. We talked for a few and he said, "I'll leave you to do your thing. Come back anytime. I have seen you in the other field for a few years now and feel that I can trust you on your own." I thanked him, a bunch, and he left me to my hunting.

I hit around the ball diamond for a few, but there was a lot of trash, so I decided to do a quick scan over some of the rest of the area. I run into a spot that looked like a building once stood and started finding a lot of brass hardware, from some old doors and such. After a few minutes I found something I have always wanted to find. A big brass skeleton key. It measures right at 4-5/8" in length, and is about a 1/4" in diameter at the big end.

Next item of interest I recovered was a pretty good size square compact. It measures 3-1/4" X2-1/4" and seems to have been gold plated at one time. It was still closed up pretty tight, but it opened up fairly easy. I was really surprised to find that all of the hinges still worked pretty good.

With all of the large objects I was finding just below the surface I was sure that the place had not been detected before, or at least not vary hard anyway. I'm not used to finding so many large objects all bunched together in one location. I was stoked... Here's a pick of some of the other items recover in that area, minus two old brass door plates that I forgot to put into the pic.

Dig'n all that big brass was wearing me out, so I decided to do some more scanning. First coin I recovered was a nice looking 1905-S Barber dime and not long after that I found a really nice looking 1941-S Merc. The pics don't do it justice. It still has full bands although there is some slight wear on the two center bands.

The big bang for the day came with big silver. A 1944 Walking liberty half dollar. It's been a long time since I have found a half dollar, so it ended up being the icing on the cake.

Sorry about the long read. I simply figured a new site as good as this one would be worth the long explanation. I think I'm going to call this site, "The special site". I'm definitely going back and can't wait to see what else this site may have in store for me.

As stated earlier, I hope you all are doing Ok, and have had some luck,,,
Good luck, & Happy hunting~

Dang, Leon! :o That confession was a doozie! ;D

Awesome finds! And congrats on a new site to hunt!!

Nana

You found more than one key!
The object with the square socket is a drum key. It is used to tighten the heads. Probably left by a marching band or something.

Thanks GRB...
I don't have an extra machine, but I did offer to let him try his luck with my Cz. He wasn't too enterested in hunting, but was enterested in seeing what all I recovered. I also offered him the pick of the litter. Any of the coins he wanted, or what ever, but he told me, "Nope, you keep them, you worked for them..." Very nice guy....

Also,,, Thank you all for the great comments. It's always a pleasure to share my finds with you all...
Have a great day, Leon...

P.S.> Here's a link to (Part:II) of this site if you haven't seen it yet...
