Got out for the day with a couple buds to scout some new land. First stop was a flop but the second field had a decent and untouched site. Picked up a bunch of dandy buttons and a few musket balls as well as a nice knee buckle.

Silver came in the form of a complete spoon with hallmarks. I'm thinking it's a local silversmith due to the lack of hallmarks so will do some research on that.

Find of the day for me is the bucket lister...colonial era trade weight...a first for me! Very happy with that and with the hunt.

Nice 18th century spoon. Its not made by John Coney though. The mark is completely different from his mark. The style is also much later. It is likely that is dates from the later half of the 18th century, 1760-1780.
ive seen like 6 items stamped by John Coney - no 2 alike
only seen one spoon by him and it was a "dog nose" Have not seen a mark by the elder J C
only a few items in museums - he must have made 100s
either people have some and have no idea what they got or they were melted down
sure when British ransacked houses they took plenty
the weight and some other items look 1700s
would like to know of other items found there by his friends and/or history of the property
does it date back to 1600s?
