Decided to check out a site really close to my home that I’ve seen on a couple different maps and aerials, but it is directly under a high voltage power line.

I fired up the Nox with my standard settings and noise canceled, ran smooth and quiet. First signal.

I think this is a WW1-WW2 general service button.
Next hole, silver coin sounding high tone.

I think the stamp is “COIN”, as in coin silver, almost looks like a crest on the front, hand made.
Then a bunch of wheats, and a silver quarter tone.

This is heavy brass, military, anyone recognize this?
A fairly large silver plated religious pin, maybe for a hat?

And lastly I just about walked right over this 4-5’ snake because my focus was looking for a site in the woods.

Very Nice!!! Congrats!!!

Excellent digs! The eagle piece is really interesting, and I can’t wait to learn exactly what it is. Maybe part of a sword or dagger guard?

Yuo have got to be kidding me those finds are freaking awesome all in one spot one hunt I dont ever see having a day that good. Great jobThanks for sharing.

Congrats nice finds

Beautiful sword guard there. Far from an expert on swords but my guess is 1812-1840 or so.

Wow, you found a Sword Guard & didn't know what it was, bet your pleased now! It was easy to ID, but I have no books to date it but my guess is pre-CW looking at the Eagle.

Thx! I think you have ID’d the mystery piece. When I put it in my pocket it was dirt caked and the Eagle was not visible, thought it was horse tack, maybe a buckle cover of some sort.

Thx Tommy! I have had a number of recent skunked or mostly skunked hunts at sites I was totally stoked about hunting. This site was a super low priority site, but that’s the way this hobby goes.

Thx man! I’ve been doing some googling and it looks like a match to a Federal Period Clamshell Guard. Maybe someone will have a solid date, but the Federal Period was 1789-1823. Thank you Tnet for helping ID this stuff, very cool!

Thx Cru! I’m in SW PA, so my mind does not immediately think 200 yr old military items, much more likely in my area are 150 yr old farm related brass. Very happy with the ID!

Awesome guard! Congratulations!

Nice job on the new site Thad. That sword guard is a killer relic. The sword must have been an old keepsake that eventually wasn't that important any more and ended up broken and in the dirt. It is considerably older than the rest of the stuff, although the coin silver ring might be close.

Very nice site to hunt, congrats! :occasion14:

Thx Steve! This dot is on the 1850 map Near the old part of my town and still shows up in the 1950’s aerials, but not a big homesite. I think the Coin Silver stamp could date the ring to the early part of the 1800’s, not sure how late that stamp was used. Got to be some more oldies in the poison ivy jungle... Here are a more pics of the guard with Renn Wax applied.ImageUploadedByTreasureNet.com1557155908.988367.webp

Nice finds and looks like a harmless black snake. Good to have around.

looks great! hope it keeps producing for you.

Fantastic finds, congrats!

Thx! This snake turned and looked like a King Cobra ready to strike, but you’re correct it’s just a water snake. Not poisonous, but probably would leave a mark if I had stepped on him...
