Many members here have stated research is the key let me state for the record yes I agree 110%
After studying local maps I found a port dating from the 12th century until now when first starting a new site I tend to do a quick search first of all.
No griding no search patterns just random searching I find this indicates the potential richness of a particular site if this proves fruitfull I then start to do a through grid of the area in question.
Using this method I quickly unearthed nine coins on of course the usual fishing weights in a 3m times 3m square.
the coins where in bad condition the earlist date I can make out is 1928 an old penny right though to new currency.
when I finish this I hope great site I will do a complete write up with photos both of the finds and the area.
