Relic Hunting
About a week ago I found one of the many home sites I had been looking for. Circa 1805 and gone since about the early teens/twenties.
Went to Va with Greg Toney (SC digger)for a large hunt and after finding nothing but bullets was itching to get back out on familiar ground.
We finally got a chance to get out yesterday and while only scratching the surface, it produced some very early relics and appears to have never been hit.

About one hour into the hunt I got what is to date, my best find. S C Militia plate. Only about 1 inch down, it is a little bent but still in incredible shape. I fist thought it was the early Us Sword belt plated due to the shape but after an initial rubbing could easily see one of the state seals under the Palmetto tree. Everything is intact including the hook, bar and the small, sliding tines that accompany this particular style.
To say I was excited would be a huge understatement!!

Holding off on cleaning until I decide if I want to get it restored or not. We are anxious to get back out as this site could/should produce some early militia buttons as well.

Thanks for looking

Here is plate after initial cleaning of just toothpicking the top layer of crud off. She is looking good.

You should make that your profile pic.

Phew man, that plate is smoking hot! I bet the signal about blew your earphones off. I found a plate about two inches down once and almost passed thinking it was a soda can. Anyway....

Beautiful cleaning job and a total banner find man!

Scrappy-thanks for the comment. Was definitely a screamer but had a slightly different sound if you know what I mean. would not overload either.
I am sure I have passed on some outstanding relics before though!!

Great Plate, congrats!

Really cool! That must have felt good.

Congrats on making the banner. Very well deserved. :occasion14:

Palmetto - Congrats on Banner! I was certain that you would get there!

Wow, that's incredible. That has to be the most beautiful rendering of South Carolina's state tree that I've ever seen.

Awesome find. Shows that not all the outstanding finds come from the low country but that anywhere in S.C. can be historical.

Congrats on that one awesome find!. Maybe one day I can find a NC plate to go with my NC Rev Button... Once again congrats on that great find!

Congrats on earning the well deserve 2nd banner nomination and nod.

One of the best I've seen!

I watched the YouTube video last . So exciting to see history like this being saved!

Being a "Serious" Relic hunter I do appreciate your Banner find.

I about missed it again as many things went Banner lately & yours is on the Edge of my small computer screen.

A big Congratz Man.!
