Primary Interest:
Relic Hunting
About a week ago I found one of the many home sites I had been looking for. Circa 1805 and gone since about the early teens/twenties.
Went to Va with Greg Toney (SC digger)for a large hunt and after finding nothing but bullets was itching to get back out on familiar ground.
We finally got a chance to get out yesterday and while only scratching the surface, it produced some very early relics and appears to have never been hit.

About one hour into the hunt I got what is to date, my best find. S C Militia plate. Only about 1 inch down, it is a little bent but still in incredible shape. I fist thought it was the early Us Sword belt plated due to the shape but after an initial rubbing could easily see one of the state seals under the Palmetto tree. Everything is intact including the hook, bar and the small, sliding tines that accompany this particular style.
To say I was excited would be a huge understatement!!

Holding off on cleaning until I decide if I want to get it restored or not. We are anxious to get back out as this site could/should produce some early militia buttons as well.

Thanks for looking

Well, this is exactly the type of find true treasure hunters dream of. Slightly bent yet completely intact. Truly an amazing piece of researching and recovery. Banner worthy by all accounts. Well done guys! :icon_salut:

Congratualtions on the awesome piece of history! :occasion14:

The video is up on the Saving History YouTube channel. I'm not allowed to post a direct link because of the monetization ads, but there is a link to the channel in my signature if anyone is interested.

Russ, what time period does that particular design tie to?

Big congrats Russ. I'm glad you posted your find on here. I just finished watching Greg's video on it just a little while ago and tada...I find your post. Well done on a super find!!

That's what it's all about! I'd give it a light cleaning to reveal the detail, and be happy with it as is.

Congrats on the great looking piece, the details are showing up nicely even through the dirt. What a great piece to have on the top shelf of any display.
The vote is in on this beauty.

Oh man....xtra sweet piece of History! Great save on that beauty!!! Congrats and a banner find all the way.

Superb find and will be an easy restoration fix. Really nice to find your own state's plate too. I dream of a Virginia state seal plate someday. :)

Palmetto: That's a fantastic belt plate. I'd be floored to even find any type of plate - they're not found all that much up my way. But to find such a rarely seen plate - that's a killer find. I hope to see some great pics after you've had it restored. Congrats!

Man you don't show up often but when you do it is Amazing
