New to MD'ing in PA
Hello all! I've always been curious about metal detecting and I even had a toy metal detector as a kid. I recently decided that I was going to buy a MD with money I had received as a Christmas present. $200 was limiting so I went with the detector with the best reviews for under that amount. I bought a Tesodoro Compadre and I'm eagerly awaiting it's arrival.
I live in an area of SW PA that was first settled in 1777 and interestingly enough my house borders the original settlers homestead (or more accurately was once on the original acreage bought by the original settler). I've found some old survey maps from 1876 and I'm trying to pinpoint the original homesteads sold to found my town. Hopefully there are some old foundations in the woods around me. I know for a fact that there are some stone homes around me close to 200 years old.
I have been reading forum posts on here and trying to absorb as much information as I can from everyone. Does anyone have specific advice regarding seeking out these places out? Google maps doesn't reveal much because of the tree cover and development.
I'm including an aerial photograph of the purported address of the original settler Sheshbazzar Bentley. The cemetary is the family plot on the property. (I apparently can't post images from my iPad here so I'll just give the address. 250 James Rd Bentleyville Pa 15314. The cemetary is just south of the road.)
Any advice would be very welcome and appreciated!
