Just got into Metal Detecting and Coin Roll Hunting and have found this forum to be completely addicting to read!

I just finished going through $360 in halves that I collected from a handful of banks in the area - got skunked.

It's still fun and somewhat relaxing as a hobby, so I won't let the skunking stop me.

$1500 in boxed halves are on order and I will pick them up on Thursday.

I hope to report back on Friday with my results - good results!

New here as well. A fellow on the /r/silverbugs forum on reddit sent me a link to the crh forum, now I've registered & ordered my first two $500 dollar half boxes. All in a couple of hours. We'll see what is going on!

I'll try & report back to this thread often to see how things progress.

Best of luck in the hunt.

Happy hunting folks! It can become very addicting very fast. If you enjoy the thrill of finding that sought after coin this is the hobby for you!
Hope to hear of lots of good finds!

Welcome!!!

As a CRH'er for over 6 years, don't let the skunks get to you. My largest skunk streak on halves was 19 boxes. I am currently on a 10 box skunk streak.

Also, make sure you can dump your return clad halves before you order more. :icon_sunny:

Just order my 1st $500 also my wife thinks I have gone off the deep end :laughing7:

There should be a support group for spouses of treasure hunters & silverbugs. Hahaha, we only have to find something great once and we wont get so many of those blank stares!

My wife thought I was nuts too, and after the skunking in my first attempt she was ready for me to call it quits...

...I changed her tune today, though!

Hit a few banks a bit further out in some of the smaller 'burbs - got $130 in CRH plus some loose halves - ended up scoring 18 keepers! 17-40's and 1-1964

This is so totally addicting I can't stand it. I've got 3 boxes coming in on Thursday from two different banks and I am going to tear through those like I'm hopped up on Mountain Dew!

Happy Hunting everyone!

Happy Hunting everyone!

My wife reluctantly opened up some new accounts with me on wednesday. I better score something worthwhile. I have 1500 in halves coming tomorrow & wednesday hahaha. I'll post results.

"Hello...my name is Dave, and I'm a silver-holic"

New here as well, but not necessarily new to CRH'ing. Been doing it for about a year. I will never forget it because I scored a silver half from the very first roll I pulled out of the very first box I ordered from the bank! Couldn't believe it...it's like it was destiny or something :)

Now, here i sit, many months and more than 400 boxes later, and I am totally hooked. I am a FREAK when it comes to silver and finding pre-'71 halves! But there is simply nothing like opening that roll and looking down at that beautiful white, shiny rim!

It's definitely a hobby with its ups and downs:

Longest skunk streak: 15 boxes :dontknow:
Best box: 106 keepers :laughing9:

Anyway, I appreciate all of the good information and communication that takes place on this forum. I'm looking forward to getting to know the rest of you better as we continue to share our strange stories about this fun--but ADDICTING--hobby!

Wishing you all the best in your search...

Thanks! I used several of the tips I picked up lurking on this forum for the last week or two. I'm in NYC & hoping that the volume will keep my boxes interesting. I've been harassing the banks by phone daily trying to find if any old ladies dropped off any hand rolled halves or large sized dollar coins.

Persistence is the key I suppose, & I really do have a problem. I rather do this then spend all my money buying stuff closer to spot. Our 4 year old daughter has been watching & now knows the difference between Ben Franklyn, Booker T Washington & JFK. It makes my wife cringe that I'm infecting our daughter with the silverbug disease.

So I filtered through my first 500 box of halves with our 4 year old.

I lost my crh virginity! Total take=

1 40% 1968 kennedy.

My wife thinks its ok now that our 4 year old is nuts about treasure hunting with me. We'll see how the next two boxes go on Weds.

Happy Hunting!
