Hi! I've been metal detecting for a few years now, but I've always really wanted to look for indian artifacts. Over the past summer I had the pleasure of doing some archaeological work at an indian village from the 1600s along a river problably half an hour's drive from my dorm. Now I would never approach that site, that's not my intention. I heard from a professor that there are even older Native american sits all along the river which slopes through a sizable bit of public park land. I'm going to try to get up there and walk along the river, but it's pretty hard to do so since the banks are a bit steep. I'd have to trek off the main trail to find a decent spot to wade or look along some built up rocks. I know it would be worth the trip though since the river is prime with campsites and such. Any tips anyone could give me on how to do this? Should I wade in the water? Also the spot I'm at, the river was dammed or moved a bit, would that matter?

If it were me i'd just hunt the gravel & sand bars. Also if its a big river there might not be much to hunt on foot, look for feeder creeks that are easy to walk learn materials from your area, creeks n rivers can be tuff to hunt. i look at them like fields some are better than others you got to find the right ones.Have fun...
