Welcome to both you and your son. You have come to the right place for more information. Where are you detecting, and what type of permit do you have?

Hello, I am new to detecting...

Welcome Aboard to both of ya! You didn't list your state (or country) in your profile. So, you might consider jumping over to Sub-Forum: Select Your Area.... and selecting location information (i.e., clubs, hunts, finds, legends, maps, etc.) directly related to your state (or country)...

Rules vary all over the planet. You location would help to get better advice. Welcome to the site, from Iowa!
