Hey all,

I’ve officially decided my next chapter is the "wandering the beach looking for shiny things" era. I spend most of the week writing code and staring at the same carpet in my apartment, and my dog Winston is starting to deeply judge my lack of outdoor hobbies. It's time to get out, get some sun, and touch some sand here in Lake Worth Beach.

Here’s the tea: I am 100% brand new to this, and currently entirely gearless. Before I drop my hard-earned cash on a brand new setup and pretend I know what I'm doing, I was wondering if any of you local legends are looking to declutter?

I am happily accepting donations of any old, dusty, entry-level starter detectors you might have taking up precious closet space. If it turns on, beeps at rusty bottle caps, and saves a total beginner from paying retail, I am your guy. I’m more than happy to trade my IT/tech support skills, premium pictures of my dog, or just buy you a coffee in exchange for a starter rig.

Jokes and freebies aside, I really am excited to learn the local ropes. I want to make sure I know the proper etiquette so I'm not that guy ruining the good spots for everyone else.

Drop your best local tips, your favorite beach-hunting advice, or your spare equipment in the comments.

Ready to swing (the detector, that is),
Joseph

Welcome from North Carolina!

Welcome aboard, @Soflojojohunts . Nice to have ya here and glad you joined.
The only tip so far I have is, get a quality detector, no junk.
There are so many listed @ craigs & ebay.
Now, after that long time detecting and knowing the brands, to me it will be easy to chose one.
But the beach isn't my cup of tea, I only know to grip the one of mine to do the beach job on vacation time.
I think there are some other, more advanced users here, to give you more helpful advice than mine will be.
All The Best & Have Fun. 🍀🤞👍😎
