You've found a great place for information and fellow treasure hunters -- welcome to our community! The Garrett line would definitely be a good choice for your next level of detecting. I started with a 250 and found a lot of nice finds with it. Good luck, and remember to post your finds as you get them here: http://www.treasurenet.com/forums/today-s-finds/

Welcome Aboard! Take a look at Sub-Forums: North Carolina for information (i.e., clubs, etc.) directly related to your state.

Welcome from Brownwood in central Texas. Although I own more expensive detectors, I decided to use my Garrett Ace 250 almost exclusively this year until I got 100 hours experience with it, like Charles Garrett recommended, and just see what it could do. I now have about 78 hours on it and it has amazed me! I've found hundreds of modern coins and a lot of deep old coins with it. I found a 20k gold and sterling 1935 girl's class ring, a 1914-S Barber half dollar (my first Barber half in 49 years of detecting), an 1899 Indian Head cent, a 1906 V nickel, a 1901 Barber dime, several silver Roosevelt dimes, many iron, brass, and copper relics, and a few pieces of sterling jewelry with it in the past 5 months. As a result, I can highly recommend the Ace 250 to you.

Welcome from Mississippi.

Welcome from Niagara Falls. I would say yes to the Garrett.

Welcome to the forum! :icon_thumleft:

The Garrett AT Pro may be a nice step up from the BH. With recent influx of new detectors finding a used AT Pro (if your are OK with used) could be realized for around $ 300 - $400 dollars on this forum or on FeeBay. Do your research on machines and which one will meet your hunting (land, sand, fresh water...) needs.

Good Luck on your machine search and the fun of metal detecting. :occasion14:

Welcome aboard ! Lots of fantastic detectors out there now, :icon_thumright:

Welcome to the forum! Check good used detectors. If you can get you hands on it and try it first, even better. Upgrade as you have a chance, ask questions and check the brands to see what others have written. A pinpointer and good digger also are a plus. Good Luck and Happy Hunting!:icon_thumright:

Welcome from Virginia and Congrats to be living in Asheville; I've been there several times and really like it. As far as detectors go, like others have said get an AT Pro. I have both and quickly realized the Ace line is a stepping stone but that's just my opinion. I've seen near mint AT Pro's for around $325. My AT Pro is about as waterproof as a duck and has given me zero problems. Whatever you decide good luck.

Welcome from North Central Illinois. 🙋 Agree with the others...look around for slightly higher end detectors that have been gently used. I've found some great deals on near-mint machines here and at auction sites. Might as well get something now that'll fit your needs...so you don't play the upgrade game every season.
