Newbie in Southern Tier of NY

Just picked up my first metal detector yesterday off craigslist, a bounty hunter tracker IV for $40 came with the instructions and box. Have always wanted to join the treasure hunters community. I live in the finger lakes region of NY. Went out for a few hours last night in the back yard, found some trash, 5 pennies, 1 1945 Canadian, 1 1947 US, and an interesting brass piece looks something like a hook or window part (lots of detail to it). Well anyways looking forward to finding many more buried artifacts and learning my machine. We have a local Civil war prison camp not to far away, can't wait until i know enough about my detector to search this site.
