Instead of going out and testing all over (which will take a lot of time) try contacting your state Dept of gems and minerals, they will generally have good info on what streams gold has been found in before.

Once you have done some research on where and what streams might have gold... you might want to do a Google Earth for your area.... to scout out potential search sites. ..

Contact your local gold hunters group * if any *

if there is black sand in your pan that is a pretty good indication .. but not a forsure.

where are you at??

are you just panning or using a dredge or sluice??

read, ask Questions, and scout out right now. Best of luck

wingman - get yourself familiar with The Ohio Outdoorsman website. Lots of good folks there that can answer your Ohio prospecting questions

I have heard that if there are any big copper "finds" there may be gold.maybe try nugget shooting first in the area, if there are nuggets there is probably more small gold to. (you will need a metal detector for nugget shooting)

??? Wingman: Did you receive a GPAA Claims Guide w/ your Membership? There are a couple of Gold Claims open to Members in Ohio.

Also info on Placer/Glacier Gold Locations. Good Luck tho!
