Newbie needing help with find id

I am a newbie to the site and have recently found some interesting items.
I need help identifying the item below.
It has an engraved design on the front.

Hard to say with a piece such as this one. Someone else might be able to identify it or, at least, offer a better suggestion. I say that it appears to be a decorative part of a larger item. Maybe part of a scabbard? The other item looks like a 2013 penny.

It started raining so I had to abandon the hunt.
I am hoping to return to the area to search for any piece relating to this item.
A scabbard is a def. possibility.
The other item (penny) had me puzzled for hours! Thanks for solving that mystery as well (hahaha!)
