Newbie to Metal Detection & looking for....

I can't wait to get out and break in my new detector! I would love for the more knowledgeable members on here to share any tips, interesting places to start out at, and basically anything I need to know being a greenhorn.

I'm aware no digging in parks, or private property w/out owner permission, & such but that's about as far as my knowledge goes.

I love in Decatur (Metro Atlanta), GA and know there's lots of history below our feet & can't wait to get out and try to find it. I'm open to finding other people that would like to spend a day and explore the same area.

Looking forward to getting to know the folks here on the Forum!

You might consider browsing Sub-Forums: Georgia for information (i.e., clubs, hunts, finds, legends, maps, etc.) directly related to your state.

Welcome to TNET from So. Indiana. Tell us what kind of detector you have, there are sub forums for most detector brands here as well.....Jealous of all that Civil War and Southern history you got down there. We Hoosiers never did anything but watch High School basketball, grill hamburgers, drink Ski, and apparently toss away all the aluminum foil and pull tabs in the world! ...Good luck in all your upcoming adventures!

Wow! Thanks for the warm welcome & great tips! I will explore TNET for the more specific info & also the books/ web page suggested.

old folks know EVERYTHING, from history of local places to property owners! get to know them well and you'll be able to get many leads and contacts for sure. better than a library, honestly ask and you shall recieve. good luck
