Primary Interest:
All Treasure Hunting
went out into the woods today to a very old shack ---it was loaded with tons of old tin etc and the roots from the trees made it almost impossible to dig

yikes
2 hr hunt thru fields, woods, old river creekbed in the brambles etc and just old barbed wire, car parts, etc.

found 1 nice old bottle and one old jug

only metal kept----1 giant bolt, nut, screwy link thing...seems interesting and heavy lol

next week off to an old school that my friend knows of and going to hit that hard. getting a better feel for how my detector works so it was a great training experience.

never got to the other creek to go gold hunting lol so that will be another time.

this detecting is hard core stuff and I love it

It takes time to learn a detector, just dont get discouraged! Once you know how to use it things come easier to find! Happy hunting!

Hit up a ball field where you will get lots of targets. It will help you to learn your machine! good luck

thanks !!

no discouragement, just more determination lol

and yes on that ball field...I mentioned that to Barb that I read on this forum people hunt the ball fields and we have one down the road....so yup, it is on the list

I told my friend that if we need jobs we can scower the woods and pastures for metal parts...cause we found tons of junk metal.

Welcome to Tnet and keep at it. We are lucky to live here in NC. There are a lot of old properties around if you are into relic hunting, and wish to seek them out and ask permission. Good luck to you.

Glad to hear you are still hittin it hard,
after a while, your detector will start talking to you & you'll be able to dig the good stuff with you eyes shut! (I keep mine open for pipestems, marbles Etc)
Show us your 'big screwy thing', if you liked it, so will we !

so ya wanna see my big screwy thing
lol

sure---but it will take some time to figure out how to post a pic I will work on that now

it truly isn't spectacular but I had to come home with something :laughing9:

FarmerChick,
What coil do you have on your machine, 9", 8", 3"? Large coils cover a lot of area but smaller coils look between the trash to find good targets.

As has been mentioned, do spend time learning your machine. If you have a piece of ground where you can plant a "target garden" you can really learn from it and its right at home. All machines locate all metals, machines with discrimination blank out the "trash" metals but you can loose other metals because the discrimination blanks out some of the good along with the bad. Here I am talking about nickles and gold and these metals are lost when the discrimination is high enough to blank out aluminum. This is where the target garden is so Very helpful: the area to be used as the garden is first cleared of all trash or good metal targets. then a person plants the metal types they want to learn how to find penny, dime (clad or silver), a nickle as it can be used as a target for gold (if you are finding nickles then you will also find gold), quarter, pull tab, bottle cap, aluminum foil. Yes even plant trash/junk targets as you need to learn how your machine reacts to them.

Now go practice and good luck and enjoy your time out swinging, 63bkpkr

thanks 63
that is great information---a test garden

yes I realize now I need to see how things register on this meter and where they fall on that scale.

I have a 9 inc coil....but I did read in my manual that there is a 4 in. gold coil (well the small one for targeting gold and it hits less trash. I wonder if I should go ahead and buy it, heck for $30 it seems worth trying it also.
