:hello:
This is an awesome find in itself!
Looking to get my first detector soon(after some research), so if anyone has some suggestions let me know. I don't need top end but don;t want piece of crap either. something that will last with proper care that is.

Thanks SJ

Welcome to T-Net. I like my Ace 250.

Welcome to T-net. If you want a inexpensive but very well made and user friendly machine I would suggest the Garrett Ace 350. You can purchase a bundle pack for around $300 which includes everything for a good time. Another well known and good quality detector would be the Garrett AT Pro. This one will cost you around $550-600. I use both for different ground conditions. Also the AT pro can go up to 10ft in water. So depends on what conditions you decide to did. Hope this helps HH & GL

Hi; Welcome to TNet. I recommend getting a used Whites DFX. It runs about $ 450 or less used. It has a great display meter, Very accurate, 3 modes of target ID, Several Preset Programs and Manual Programs you can set yourself, Finds are very deep, dimes at 10" an excellent Warranty on them and the list goes on. You get one of these you will never need another detector again as long as you live ok. Good Luck. PEACE:RONB

Hello and welcome. YES, this forum is a treasure in itself!!
Have you visited the area of the forum where metal detectors are discussed yet? That's a great place to start.

I can only vouch for Garrett. My detector is about 20 years old, which you can see in my profile info. My oldest finds with it were 2 large cents; a 1797 and 1817, both at around 6 inches. My husband just got an AT Pro yesterday, so I will be observing. We are going to run an experiment where he comes in behind me whereever I detect to see what my machine missed. That should be interesting. :)

Good luck with whatever you decide. There are lots of good machines. The big thing is if you want to detect in water, you need a waterproof machine, or at least a waterproof coil for shallow detecting.

Another Texan to help find our Texas treasures! Best of luck

Welcome to TNet!
Any machine can find metal, just some give more info about your target, other than "here it is!"
So, start with mid-priced machine with good reputation AND warranty/service...!
That will give you plenty to figure out, in operation, BUT you have got to learn all about it anyway,
in order to become a successful detectorist.
In the meantime, your digging skills will get better, too.
Be SURE to get a PINPOINTER as well, it is a very important tool - ask anyone...!
Good Luck and Happy Hunting!
