Here's a nice small point if found in a plowed field in NE Louisiana. Anyone have any ideas. There are mounds in the immediate area where found, also there were Tensas Indians in the area in later times. Also found a large number of pottery fragments in the same area. IMG_0075 (Medium).webp

Sweet artifact, I don't know the types from your area but it sure is a nice one!

Nice point, the only one I can find that looks simlar is a "Rockwall", don't quote me though, lets see what the professionals think..

Looks like what they call a St.Marions point. Your area should be the center for that type of point. They are approximately 1100-1400 AD. Nice point. Is that Jasper or Opalized wood?
Cool looking pottery shards too. All I see are mostly Caddoan sherds. Some of yours looks like stamped pottery!! Most cool.

Afternoon,

Nice little point. If I were going to put a name on it I would say a Scallorn, 1300-500 bp, but its difficult to differentiate between some of the smaller points as they are quite similar. The pottery sherds are definitely Caddo. I see Duncan incised, what appears to be some cord marked, finger punctated and cane punctated. Nice stuff. I would imagine if you dig around much where this all came from you will find more "bird" points and also some shell or bone fragments.

Happy Hunting,

Atlantis

Box full of pottery from same area in Tensas Parish LA

Here's a plastic box full of shards. It's about 10 wide x 14 long X 8 deep. That's about 35-40 pounds of shards in there that I have found in 1 location in the past year. Most have come from a football field size area. All surface finds.

That looks like a Catahoula Point to me.

Do a Google image search for that type and you will some just like it.
