I had a very good Civil War hunt this weekend, with a variety of items found. My favorite find was the keeper for what I think was an Eagle Sword Belt Plate.....I just found the wrong side. The keeper has a benchmark # 547.

I also got into a very small area where there were a bunch of dropped William's Cleaner Bullets, I wish I knew why only cleaners?? .....also picked up a single friction primer and a couple of very chewed bullets.

We find piles of dropped cleaners around here too. The soldiers didn't like them as they tend to get wedged into the barrel when loading. I think they just threw them out instead of using them.

D.

Supposedly the cleaners were less accurate too, so the soldiers threw them away.

Excellent set of finds JB, perhaps the "good" side of the sword plate will show up for you soon.

Thanks for sharing, and good luck to you sir!

Nice finds. I have also found cleaner bullets together in close proximity.

That's a great hunt! Go back and find the rest. Good day indeed!

Very nice finds. Looks like you could fill a nice display case with all that lead.

pretty cool CW finds. bullets that large are a lot of extra weight to be carrying around, especially if you don't trust them for accuracy. Soldiers tend to dump unwanted weight in battles or retreats.
