With field availability finally showing some improvement, I've found time to get out for a couple half day hunts recently. Unfortunately, the only sites Dan and I could hit were ones we've had hunted hard in previous years, but we all know you can't get it all, especially in these huge fields. The best find of the bunch was a relatively plain but fairly early 17th century spectacle buckle. It came from a small knoll that had produced a half dozen colonial silvers, but overall the finds were hard to come by although I did recover a large piece to a small iron pot which is now cooking in the tank. Another site produced a few more targets with the most interesting being a fleur-de-lis shaped hinge with a worn maker's mark on the back. Other than that just a few buttons and other misc finds. Although the cotton and beans are being cut, it's about time for the deer hunters to start taking over which will leave few sites to hunt until the first of the year. And by then I'll hopefully have access to a couple of heavily researched sites that I've been trying to get into for some time, so hopefully permission can be secured for both.

Like you Bill, I enjoy the artifacts as much or more than the gold nuggets we get here in the West. With the Gold Bug 2 we almost always get a few pieces (except last week in the cold) and artifacts like crevicing tools, Chinese buttons and coins, old Henry rifle bullets and mid 19th century silver. For our Museum I'm keeping track of the maker's marks on the miner's shovels we find from time to time. Occasionally we find a meteorite. Anyway good job.

Thanks Gary. I'd love to see some photos of some of the nuggets you dig out your way. That's something on my bucket list for sure, but I'll never find anything like that in these parts. Good luck on your outings .... Bill

great finds! I'm really impressed with your book its a must have for any serious relic hunter.

Your tid bits and left overs are some top shelf relics for most folks. Lovely artifacts recovered here. I really do need to get your book. I do appreciate some old buckles more than many not so old silver coins. Thanks for sharing your nice gathering of old history.:icon_thumright:
