Got out for a 4 hour hunt today at a local Park. It ended up being the best hunt I’ve ever had!

I started with a wheatie and 1934 Buffalo Nickel. Moved to another spot and got a Rosie. Moved about 100 feet away near a big old tree and found another Rosie. Moved about 20 feet away to the other side of the tree and found the best coin spill I have ever found. In one hole there was a 1936 Walker Half, 2 War Nicks, 3 Mercs, a steel Wheatie (I know because it was stuck between other coins), and a regular wheatie! On the way back to the car I hit another Merc. Along the way I found several wheaties, a 1965 Quarter, a 1965 Dime, and some older Lincolns.

This is the first Walker for me (First Half), first War Nicks, and first Steel Penny!

In the past few weeks in this same Park, I have also found a SLQ, a 1914 Barber Quarter, a 42 Washington, a Merc, 4 Rosies, 2 Buffs, and about 20 wheaties.

I’ve learned that the key to this park is to avoid the hammered out open field areas, and get back in the woods. I look at old aerial photos and find the areas that used to be fields, but are now woods. That’s where the good coins are still. Maybe a pointer for everyone!

Congrats on the silver....especially the BIG silver.

Now that's an epic hunt! :) Congrats, man.

It would be epic to find a spot like that where you don't have to beg or door knock to gain access to. I would be there every chance I could get.

Very awesome!!!!

Man, you killed it there! Nice!

Awesome! Isn't it amazing how the silver shines! Congrats !

Hell of a day! Wow !! It would be hard to leave when you are on that kind of streak in one day. Thanks for sharing the story.

True, but keep in mind most of this was in some pretty thick woods and brush, and I covered some ground. The good thing is this Park is 10 minutes from my house, so I can go back often!

Yes it is! Love it! When I saw the edge of that half, I about pee'd my pants! It's a great feeling, and very addictive!

It is nice to just go, without asking. Only restriction right now, is metal detecting isn't allowed on weekends from April to Oct. Honestly, I have been ignoring that rule, and just parking in a remote area, staying away from the picnic areas, and heading back in the woods, I have yet to see anyone back in there. Really don't think the Rangers care, as long as you stay away from people.

I love your finds, I know this might sound crazy, but could you put up some close ups of the steel wheat. How bad a shape is it in, are you able to see a date? If it is very rusted you might be able to put it in distilled white vinegar, check it every day rubbing off the rust gently. You might get a date, I would think it all depends on how much the rust/corrosion has gone. This is just a suggestion, it may or may not work, also I have been so curious as to what a steel penny would look like out of the ground. I can't tell you how many 1944 wheats I have checked with a magnet when I already know its not steel.

Great hunt with all the silvers.

Nice! That's what I have planned for today. Some woods adjacent to a home i hunted last Saturday. HH GL

Hey Treble, the steelie is pretty rough. I tried cleaning it with a small brass brush, but it's just bubbles and layers of rust. Wouldn't know what it was if it hadn't been sandwiched between two coins. Plus it is the exact size of a penny.

You re out in the woods, all by yourself, not disturbing anyone. Yeah, some of my best finds have been in the woods.

Tremendous hunt. Wow. Hope you get more silver out of those woods!
