Got out for a 4 hour hunt today at a local Park. It ended up being the best hunt I’ve ever had!

I started with a wheatie and 1934 Buffalo Nickel. Moved to another spot and got a Rosie. Moved about 100 feet away near a big old tree and found another Rosie. Moved about 20 feet away to the other side of the tree and found the best coin spill I have ever found. In one hole there was a 1936 Walker Half, 2 War Nicks, 3 Mercs, a steel Wheatie (I know because it was stuck between other coins), and a regular wheatie! On the way back to the car I hit another Merc. Along the way I found several wheaties, a 1965 Quarter, a 1965 Dime, and some older Lincolns.

This is the first Walker for me (First Half), first War Nicks, and first Steel Penny!

In the past few weeks in this same Park, I have also found a SLQ, a 1914 Barber Quarter, a 42 Washington, a Merc, 4 Rosies, 2 Buffs, and about 20 wheaties.

I’ve learned that the key to this park is to avoid the hammered out open field areas, and get back in the woods. I look at old aerial photos and find the areas that used to be fields, but are now woods. That’s where the good coins are still. Maybe a pointer for everyone!
