Looks like the innards of a pull-down dashboard ashtray.

Ashtray is absolutly correct. My 52 Dodge had similar ones in the backseat armrests. Interesting find, I wouldn't expect to find the whole car though. Even if you did that would be too big a hole to hide. HH Stan...

Hey Gypsy, I wanted to reply about the ashtray and what looks like a something, but my wife wanted me to tell you the best picture you sent by far was the one of the cat. I could just see our tabby in one of those outfits, yeah right!

Thanks again for the post, and keep us informed about the cat! ha!ha!

I was hunting in a field the other day and had two cats follow me up and down that whole darn field. One of them helped me fill in a whole after he pooped in it. :)

Thats not an od ashtray, its obviously a VINTAGE ashtray and should be listed on Ebay as such, bet it was a chore to dig it out if it was very deep. I too would like to give the thumbs up on the toes. I couldnt tell if there were any flowers or the like painted on them? but the red finish really works on them...HH

I believe the other whatsit item is a bezel for a car interior door handle or window crank. I would guess 40's or 50's.
