The branch manager at my local bank told me this morning that they got an email from Loomis late yesterday saying that since the government is stopping minting pennies, effective immediately banks can no longer order them. She said I can have whatever they have in stock or what others may bring in. She also mentioned that she heard Brinks is doing the same thing.
I'll miss searching pennies. I usually find the most in them.

That’s probably the end game — no cash at all. Not only will the money be worthless, it won’t even actually exist other than as a number on a screen.

Unfortunately, yes.

good riddance, those zincolns were an abomination anyway. Coins got boring the world over in the 60's. everyone started producing "no"value junk. Give me gold and silver any day!

If you want to hunt pennies, kept looking, many banks in my area say the have none and can't order. Others have plenty.
There are billions of pennies out there the will be coming back to banks slowly over many years. Find a bank with tellers willing to hold if for you.

digital crime
Yeah, modern day bank robbers probably like this even more. No need to risk going out in public and trying to get away. They can just "break in" electronically from comfort of their home, in whatever country they are in around the world.

Sweden has gone the furtherest with a cashless financial system. There robberies are down and identity/electronic theft is up
