nice find Romeo!

I have not found a complete one, but several pieces of different types.

I really enjoy finding the escutcheon plates. They always make my day...especially if they are marked or have a nice design. Have you found any?

I've only found one escutcheon plate, plain Brown Bess.

Answer... but probably not the one you were hoping for. Still enough doubt to continue researching, especially if there is still a maker for this you have not yet found. The guy who wrote this is a serious collector.

You have a Brown Bess TG, either 1st or 2nd model. Know you are thinking MB is Massachusetts Bay, but am afraid is not. Think I have same mark on a TG in my collection, or did have one and maybe traded it(?). Feel is maker's mark. If you find out definitely it is something else please let me know."

Thanks for that. Nothing definitive so a little more research is in order. I would think that a maker based on this mark would be something cataloged somewhere.

WTG romeo...love finding those old gun parts...only pieces of trigger guards myself but never a whole one... hope your digging continues for a bit!

Nice one Rome. I'll be interested to see what the MB stands for. :icon_thumright:

In case you missed it in the What is It thread...

A possibility is Martin Brander who had Ordnance Contracts beween 1793 and 1809. His contracts were for rough stocking, setting up, and also for complete arms. Later became the well known partnership of Brander and Potts.

Thanks to Bill Curtis for the ID!

Nice trigger guard :o :o :o :o
CONGRATS!

That trigger guard is a cool find but I have to wonder, where is the rest of the gun, LOL. Those horse shoe type buckles you found, I also find them here in Germany and now think they are French dating to the late 1700s, what do you think? The French had several small battles here around 1796. HH, Mike

It's definitely an old French site but these buckles are more modern. common harness buckles, probably less than 100 years old.
