Very beautiful points. Congrats!

Sweet!. Back in the early 90s I was working in Alachua, FL. I would stay every other weekend and come home on the other. I wished I'd a gotten out to hunt artifacts on the weekends I stayed out there, but I wasn't familiar on where the best places to hunt in that country would be. Instead I'd go see some of the other sites of the area. One time I went to Cedar Key to check out the shell mounds.

Alachua & Marion Counties are great places to find Florida artifacts. I was able to hunt them in the early 80's. So much in Florida has changed and finding places you can dig for points is really hard.

Or cheap tourists points purchased which look way to perfect to be old. And shiny lacquer has been applied to at least one them as well. Are the backs flat as if a mold with soft/liquid ceramic was used to create the tops you are showing?

It’s very possible he soaked them in mineral oil. It’s not a uncommon practice with that type of material. The oil enhances the true colors. I soak mine sometimes in tap water seeing most of mine are creek finds. Creek patina will make them turn dull after they dry out.

I made this point quite a few yrs ago. I got the material from a FL knapper. No lacquer or oil. It has the same super high gloss as the OPs points. My memory might not be right on this but I think he told me this material comes from a phosphate mine. Is it coral or something else?
