Old site, new finds. This field keeps giving. I and many others hit it for years now. "Others aka Nighthawks" stopped, but i still like it. Real treasure is found there in winter when we had lots of rain to wash the stones clean. One of the best Stone Age fields we have. Freshly drilled the conditions for flint are bad, still managed a Neolithic flint blade frag.
Roman finds were sparse, it's more a good field for pottery now. Best find was the Amphora handle. It came off a big Spanish globular amphora for olive oil. Other pottery was a shard of a mortar, some black ware and a bit Terra Sigillata.
Metal finds were some coins, roman and modern. All more or less toast. Nice is the medieval thimble with grooved rim, not very common. Medieval buckle, part of a brooch(?), ear mark with ear still attached :tongue3: and a Prussian infantry button(13th Regiment).
Enjoy the pics! :occasion14:

Oh, if you wonder about the colour of the coins, i tested cooking the bronze finds in wax. I think finds came out pretty nice.

Wow, nice finds. That's an excellent thimble, and the buckle is an amazing find as well. Great amphora handle too!

Thanks for the info Don! I didn't know some of them are higher value. I have to admit that i don't look at them a lot. They are usually toast when found in a field and dates are most in the 1920s, lost during the occupation after WWI.

Well done! Some great finds! Too bad I couldnt go that day, looks like I missed some fun, you rocked that field!

Much better day. I like the Thimble the best. That one would be up there in the top 2 best conditioned ones.(for me)

Thanks Cru, funny thing is, the dimples in the thimble are punched very deep so many of them go through. Looks like a strainer from inside.

Congrats great relic finds!
You guys have such awesome relics there.

Nice finds Lu. I think flints for flintlocks were shaped like that weren't they? Now go find some more silver, you're slipping. Good luck.

Very nice, that thimble is fantastic. The history over there is so rich.

Lu,

Great selection of finds and I'd have to go with the thimble as the best of the lot.

Regards + HH

Thanks Tim, you're right, flintlock flints are similar shaped and same dimension like this piece. But it's clearly broken on one end (picture right) and it's not the usual flint for flintlocks, +it's missing the scratched edge where the flint touches the frizzen.

And thanks all for the compliments, i'll try to top it on thursday! :occasion14:

Awesome finds, I'm seriously considering an England trip next Fall (gotta start saving)!

Excellent group of finds you have there, and that thimble is really good.

Fantastic. The thimble is a real beauty.

Great result using the wax treatment!
