Looks like the logo that is attached to the grip stock of an imported rifle to me. I have seen the logo, but can't remember which one. I think it's an italian maker? Monty

I would think Monty that the logo emblem is too large and too heavy for a rifle, or do I have that wrong?

Florence Machine Co also made oil burning stoves as well, maybe it's a logo off of one of their stoves.
Hmm.. I think that idea is even better than a sewing machine! That sort of emblem feels like a stove... I knew I was missing something, I felt it but just could not put my finger on the object where such an emblem would be placed, and this idea is just great.

Check out Google Patents and pull up patent:

Patent number: D13071
Filing date: May 25, 1882
Issue date: Jul 25, 1882

This is for the Florence Favorite Oil Burning stove. On page two, line 85 is a paragraph describing their use of a monogram of F.M.CO. on their stoves. The drawing of the monogram on page one are not exact, but pretty similar. The style of the top of the M looks really similar. If you go on and read the next paragraph, it even says they plan on using that design, but may be making modifications to it.

I'm by no means a stove expert, but do think this is most likely a stove part, probably not specifically from the Florence Favorite, but for one of their other models. This does appear to be a piece that was made to withstand heat.

No , it's not too big, looks about the size of a silver dollar, but I admit, it just reminds me of one I have seen, so I am not saying it is for sure. Monty
