Hi All,

Had a chance to get out in the woods for a few hours this afternoon. I managed to uncover a 1952 Washington, three wheaties, assorted clad, and a neat key. However, the "find" of the day was a Copperhead snake! It was about three feet long, and kind'a pissed off. I have never seen one of these in the wild, and apparently they are quite rare in Massachusetts. Glad I didn't step on him... HH.

Nice job on the silver and other finds besides the snake, But at least you found him before he got to you first.

Sheez man, I'm glad you're ok. There's a place where I hunt on occasion called RattleSnake Creek. During colonial times it was full of Timber Rattlers but I still believe there are a couple still in there. Anyway, I hope I never cross with any venomous snake brother. Stay safe and nice quarter.

Yet another reason to avoid woods hunting for me. Congrats on the finds. I found a similar key recently

Congrats on the silver. I hope you're a lot further east in Mass than I am!!!

Nice digs. Pretty sure that is a milk snake though and not a copperhead.

Nice key! I agree, not a copperhead (Round eye pupils), but it will still bite you.

Thanks for the correct ID on the snake. Still don't think I'd want to get up close and personal...

Love the snake. Glad you two parted company on equal terms. Cool old key and silver quarter. Wonderful day in the woods.

Nice! Whats it say on the key?

Congratulations on the silver find. The copperheads I have run across down south tended to be short and thick. They look like a stick in the path until they move.

Congrats on the finds ( even the snake ) . I like that key.

That I believe is a milk snake and not a copperhead based on head/eye shape.

I try to avoid Mr. No Shoulders.
Congrats on the silver and the old key.
Is that a padlock key?

Nice finds, great looking Milk Snake. It's protected here in Ontario, they come in different shades of color, though all similar. I have many around the wood piles, but smaller than what you encountered. Give me a real snake over some urban snake in the grass any day. Seeing a Milk Snake is telling you are detecting in a healthy environment, and is harmless.

Everyone mis-identifies the copperhead. Thanks for not killing that poor little fellow. He was scared!

I like the RR key!

definitely not a copperhead although many get killed for looking similar. we have a lot of people that have moved here from somewhere else and 90% of their copperhead sightings or kills are something totally different. I have only seen one copperhead so far this year, several cottonmouths and no rattlers of any kind. Even the hog nose snake gets killed for being a copperhead. snake populations are definitely dwindling around here which means a lot more pack rats and mice. still, always treat any snake with respect if not sure

Very cool thread, nice finds monkey.

Looks like an old railroad key. Congrats on the quarter, key and not getting bit by the snake!
