Had a chance to get out this afternoon. Not much time, so I visited the park that's been good to me lately.

Got a good 12:45 at 6 inches. Dug down, and pulled out a NJ state copper. Very exciting!

After a warm water rinse, the coin is in quite good shape, considering it's been sitting there for 200 years....

Also found a nice tombac button (I think). It rang up weird. 12:07 on the CTX3030.

Enjoy!

A tombac ringing up at that isn't too crazy, but it's low. I think my lowest was a 12:12. Nice NJ. Congrats

Sweet find, especially because it was in such great shape! Good work.

Kevin, you have found a 1786 Maris 16-L variety, R-2 Common. Thankyou for the data, it is probably not much in value due to the rarity and being a ground found. 1786 New Jersey Copper - Maris 16-L It is one of the Protruding tongue varieties.

That is a real nice NJ and the engraved tombac is cool too.

A 12-45 at 6 inches on the CTX is an automatic dig for me.
That's a nice coin.
12-07??,, I probably would have passed on the button. That would be too close to foil for me. Was there anything else in the hole?
Congrats on your finds.

I know, right! Nothing else in the hole. 12-07 would normally be a ? for me, but at 6", I had to know what it was. Glad I dug it!

Thanks all!

Kevin

Might not be a rare variety, but very nice condition for a dug Jersey. Almost all my colonials come up at 12-46 and the Liberty Cap LC I found yesterday was a screaming 12-47 as it was only 3" down in a tilled field. Nice going.

Very nice NJ copper

Another reason to dig everything....good find you made!!!

THATS A BEAUTY ....

Nice copper, still looking for a state copper.

love the great details, mine was not cuddled by gentle loving soil :-(

BIG Congrats on finding a Jersey copper :hello2: nice one !

Really nice old coin.
I've found one of those but yours is in way better shape. Copper doesn't seem to do too well in my soil.
