We are clearing a mountain property to build in Boone NC area. Hitting lots of quartz type rock and lots of black sand. Also, there were mines really close by where many things have been found, garnets to gold. I wanted to post a few pics of what I’m finding. It doesn’t float, doesn’t dissolve in acid. Could it be?? Thoughts and any advice please. looks like mica to me. I i spent some time in the areas around boone and it was everywhere. but also like you said there was everything from emeralds to gold found in the area.

crush it down and pan it and see what turns up

Quarts ?..black sand ?..gold mines nearby ? I'd do a few 'Test Pans'... .Good luck :)

Crush and pan! Going to be tough panning with all that mica, but you might get a bit of gold out of it.
