We've had some erosion at certain beaches here in SoCal lately....mostly from a big storm way out west of us. The sand almost complete washed away at this place. The dry sand used to be over our heads where you can see my buddy detecting, and extended out to where the waters' edge is in the photo. Makes for some fun detecting although it's hard to recover stuff in those rocks and hard packed sand.

Nice cut and look at all that solid black sand. That's definitely a situation for my PI. Single frequency detectors need not apply, and I think even SMF's might struggle a bit, but with all that black sand, that's exactly the situation where I'd definitely be swinging a PI.

For those that may not know, this is a historic beach. Several hundred feet out buried underwater is the wreck of the Faithful Stewart. I heard about this beach when I started detecting as a kid and dreamed of going there to hunt. Over the last several decades, it's produced so many old coins (coppers) that everyone calls it "Coin Beach".

There is still way to much new sand there, water use to run right up next to the bridge.

Yeah, looks like they dumped tons & tons of sand on that beach. Last time I hunted that beach, it was deserted, wasn't used as a beach for sunbathing. I had to park about 1/2 mile up on the other side of Rt. 1, cross Rt. 1 with my gear, then take a path to the beach, then walk that 1/2 mile down, lol. But several years ago, they added a walking path from the parking lot, goes under the bridge and right up to the beach, so now a lot of beachgoers hit the beach.

Wish that path would have been there when I hunted, but since they built the path to accommodate beach goers, they of course felt the need to dump tons of sand on the beach to build it up, which kills the chance of finding the old coppers. At least with the cut, a few feet of sand looks to have been removed, so there might be some goodies left hiding there in the wet, at least until the sand comes back in.
