nude figurine/ update "Sun Child" (Nazi SS era art) 1 selling for $500!!!!

I just got this from my aunt & uncle, I guess this was from my uncles mother when she passed away and spent the better part of 20yrs hidden in the back of a china cabinet because my aunt HATED it. I was over helping my family this weekend and I seen it laying on its side way in the back hidden from view and asked about it, my aunt said it was old and her mother in law had expensive taste but it wasn't her cup of tea, she said take it or she was gonna toss it, any idea on how old it is or if its worth anything? Either way its now prominently displayed with my bottle collection. :tongue3:

Great "Sun Child" figurine!

I believe Karl Tutter originally designed that particular piece before WWII and since then, there have been various reproductions in that style.

Do you know about when that piece was originally purchased? The earlier examples are higher in value.

awesome, I have no idea if its orrigional but its still a cool piece to have in my collection!!! :headbang: :headbang: :headbang:
Thanks for the info bud!!!

Re: nude figurine - update "Sun Child"

I'm pretty sure its at least pre 1945 since it would have said east or west Germany on it.

Re: nude figurine - update "Sun Child"

Lucky You, that is one pretty piece of art

another tidbit of info from another hunting bud

Might want to check out some of the Tutter and Werner sun worshipper art. It's Nazi-era and was sold in SS shops largely during Hitler's reign.

Very nice piece! I'd have to hide it myself as I'd end up staring too much and wifey would take to that liek your Aunt did!

Re: nude figurine - update "Sun Child"

This isn't easy to figure out. It was created by Carl Werner but, it has Tutter pressed into the bottom.
So, what goes there??

The Sun Worshipper is the work of renowned sculptor Carl Werner, born 6 June 1895 in Rudolstadt (Thüringen), who was from 1922 until 1960 the technical leader of the Kunstabteilung (Artistic Department) of Porzellanfabrik Lorenz Hutschenreuther. Werner was a contemporary of the other famous Hutschenreuther nude sculptor, Karl Tutter.
Our picture of the base of this sculpture shows Werner’s name impressed in the white porcelain above the Hutschenreuther logo in exactly the same fashion as Prof. Th. Kärner ’s name is found on some SS Allach pieces he designed. The last word in the Hutschenreuther logo is Kunstabteilung which differentiates products produced by the ARTISTIC DEPARTMENT from those produced by the Hutschenreuther department which manufactured tableware.

It might not have been her cup of tea, but it sure is mine. I would title that piece...."Laundry Day". ;D

It's a great piece of art. And, I'm just guessing here; perhaps Werner passed away, or retired and since all of the pictures of the original (I could find,) show it with a square base, perhaps Tutter redesigned the base and was allowed to press his name in it. :dontknow:

An in-depth search would probably turn up the reason.

Any idea what the "6" could be, i figured it was the 6th but no idea if its the 6th or 6th run of the mold or maybe the 6th release of a series, any insight?

Re: nude figurine/ update "Sun Child" (Nazi SS era art) 1 selling for $500!!!!

Though I couldn't find anything about the 6, my best bet would be that it would refer to the 6th edition. Much like a book in its 6th edition (printing.) That's just a guess. :dontknow:

I did find Werners creation, but it is a lot different than than this one. This link features the one you have: http://www.rubylane.com/item/499180.../Hutschenreuther-Sun-Child-Porcelain-Figurine

And this is Werner: http://www.usmbooks.com/hutschenreuther_nude_figurine.html

Wow what a beautiful piece! You should be proud to own it. A piece of art to be admired for sure.
