It's been almost 3 weeks since this story broke yet the search for the two guys who broke out of Clinton Correctional Facility in upstate NY is still very much on. They seem to have disappeared like a puff of smoke in a head wind. Obviously the elaborate plans they made to get out included how to stay gone.
I can't help but be reminded of the June 11, 1962 escape from Alcatraz by Frank Morris and the Anglin brothers John & Clarence. They also went to extraordinary lengths in breaking 'The Rock.' It's been 53 years and if recently uncovered facts by National Geographic are true they survived. The U.S. Marshalls are still actively looking for them and will be until their 100th birthdays.
The takeaway is that where there's a will --- there's a way. It will be interesting to see how this recent escape plays out. While I don't condone their actions my money is on the escapees making good. As time goes by the odds continue to increase a little more in their favor. It's far fetched to think that they're on a beach somewhere like Tim Robbin's character Andy Dufresne at the end of the movie 'The Shawshank Redemption.' However, I'm sure that wherever they are freedom tastes every bit as sweet....

After spending most of this incarnation in the mechanical contracting industry the hole that was cut in the steam pipe seems odd. What I saw on TV the hole didn't seem to have been cut by desperado's or non-trades people.. It was a cut made by IMO what we call a peanut grinder. It was too neat. What struck me was it looked to have been made by someone that intended to use the cut piece to make the necessary repair later. Escapees would not care and the cut would be haphazard.
A pipe fitter would make a professional cut almost w/o thinking because that's what they do.
I think the cut was made by a journeyman pipe fitter either before the escape for some reason relating to the steam system or cut to aid the escape.
A cut before could be to inspect the condition of the pipe from the inside as they are old and it might have been a preventive maintenance requirement. Problem with that is their would need to be another cut or you'd just end up in the boiler. If the intent was to inspect the pipe from the inside you wouldn't need two cuts. An inspector could just crawl through the entire pipe. The pipe would normally be cut at the boiler not down stream.

Detectives always conclude in if seems too impossible, it was an inside job. Strange relationships can develop in a prison system.
I've worked in a number of prisons and could tell stories about these situations.

Don't romanticize their flight. They could easily murder civilians if they get in the way. The guys in Shawshank weren't killers. That's the only reason one could hope for their escape. Myself I want these guys caught or killed. Their crimes should have qualified for the death sentience. Unfortunately death sentience's are often on innocent people. These guys don't fit that category. PEACE

My guess is they are in canada--just a guess

From MY experience as an administrator in a MAX Security Prison in Virginia I think it was an "inside job" of PRISON STAFF, too... AND! I also think that they have "help" on the RUN, outside; just a "gut" feeling.

One down; one to go... as Administrator in that "MAX", I was issued a sub-nose 38 (5 shots), in case WE had an escapee; NEVER did. Weapon training, state weapon permit; "sub-nose" locked up in locker, at "Front Entry" during the day... taken home at night. Wife was NOT AMUSED... YET! Her own father was Lt. Colonel of Maryland State Police, and her brother was SGT. MSP K-9... she HATED guns... LOL!

So ends the most compellingly watchable news story since the O.J. Simpson bronco chase 20+ years ago and its aftermath. This NY escape story beat the ____ out of the latest political B.S. from Washington, gay marriage, & the doings of the Kartrashians! No one was hurt or killed except the two cons. Under highly questionable circumstances I might add. One was drunk, sick and unarmed and the other one turned his back and tried to run away. I'm not implying that they didn't get what they had coming. It just seems lately like as long as you're wearing blue and have a "shield" you can kill anyone anytime anywhere like 007. It will be interesting to see what Sweat has to say if he survives his injuries. Obviously they'll be "sweating him down" --- pun intended. No more 'Club Fed' honor block for him. I think Super Max out in Florence, CO will likely be his next accomodation. He can have some interesting conversations there in his 1 hour per day outside his cell with the likes of; the Unabomber, Eric Rudolph, Bob Hanssen, and Ramzi Yousef....

I DID hear he WAS heading for a SUPER-MAX; we have two, here in Virginia... he would NEVER survive; PERMANENT Solitary, in "the HOLE"...

Just when one spectacular prison escape story has played out another one emerged Saturday to fill the void. It seems Jaoquin "Shorty/El Chapo" Guzman --- Mexico's drug king pin escaped from a maximum security prison in Mexico. After he was recaptured last February from several years on the lam from a previous prison break.
It seems he crawled through a 20" opening in the shower floor to an underground tunnel a mile in length and emerged at an abandoned construction site. Unlike the NY escapees this guy is extremely well-financed and has proven very slippery. I am sure he bought his way out and had substantial help from several people in charge.
The U.S. is offering any and all help necessary to bring him back to justice. :hello:

He WAS a BILLIONAIRE; AND! It's MEXICO...

No surprise that an organisation that specializes in concealing tunnels employed another one.
Dirt hauled out and supplies hauled in in site of prison.
The overlooked obvious..
Like the old joke of the boarder guard confiscating the guy on the bicycles bag of dirt five days in a row and dumping it out.
Later after the guy quit showing up daily, a complaint of bikes being stolen came in.
