NY State prospecting

My wife and are looking to get into prospecting this spring. We that it would be a great activity to do with our daughter. Any suggestions on locations would be welcomed as we are complete novices. Thanks for your time!

Get a different hobby in New York State. It's all glacial gold and extremely small and sparse. You'll never make your gasoline money back.

Thanks for the advice. How about surrounding states like PA,CT,NH or VT? Same thing because of geographic location?
