The so-called "box drains" at Smith's Cove are the strongest argument believers have for Oak Island's flood tunnel theory, but the scorched soil beneath them tells a very different story. Sean Munger examines why these structures were almost certainly an illegal fish-salting operation, and why that demolishes the last physical pillar of the treasure legend.

Great post!

The box drains and flood tunnels were proven to be fictional fantasy long ago.

What he says is virtually identical to my beliefs on the matter. I would say that "no one has ever seen the marker stone" is not true, but those who did see it were certainly unimpressed. I wish he had mentioned that the east drumlin has a highly porous/cavernous bedrock that allows not only for flooding, but very fast flooding.

Sorry to break it to you, but Mr. Munger's examination was cursory at best, and he gives very little to show anything "almost certainly." He offers a competing theory. Fair enough. I've seen it before. It may even be correct, but it's a long way from being proven.

Where is he getting data about "evidence that their were fires laid on these stones" and that "soil under these rocks exhibits scorching"? I've not seen this referenced before. Unless this video is a small portion of a much longer work, he's done a poor job of citing his sources.

Ultimately unimpressed.

To answer my own question, Mr. Munger is probably referencing the 2010 theory built by Dennis King. King, however, was talking about a separate structure that Dan Blankenship found 150 feet south of the middle of the Cove beach (i.e. significantly south of where the finger drains were found, if I'm not mistaken) as the boil spot. It was the earth within this u-shaped stone structure that "showed evidence of extensive heat and was burnt deep red", not that under the stone drains themselves. Yes, King was still attaching the salt works theory to the drains, but Munger's statement "under the box drains ... there's evidence that there were fires" is a sloppy mish-mash of what he had read.

Still unimpressed.

I would offer that the whole Oak Island process falls under P.T. Barnum's quote: “Many people are gullible, and we can expect this to continue.”

Hi GravelTeeth, you are correct,:icon_thumright: the box drains constructed beneath the beach at Smiths Cove were filled with Coconut fibres and Ell Grass to filter out the sand contained in the perpetual sea water wave action. The inlets off the South Shore had no filter system in place (see CAD) which is why the four separate independent tunnels were used and each one descended to the lowest excavated point on Oak Island. The unfiltered sand at South Shore constantly entered the inlets slid and down the steeply sloping tunnels to settle in the Money Pit Sand Sump. The relatively clear of sand water is what was required by the designer, it formed the stagnant level of the sea water in the sloping West tunnel. this water level was prevented from rising any higher due to a designed air lock. Any attempt to reach the below sea level repository full of treasure would breach that vital air lock, that escaping air would in turn cause the mine to completely flood in minutes. That effect is precisely what was intended, in short the mine was left that way as a deadly booby trap for fools who rush in.:nono:

The good news is I know how to deactivate it. :icon_thumleft:, the bad news is don't know how to convince Rick of that :sad10: .

Hi releventchair, there is a very simple way to ascertain whether not there were filter drains and/or tunnels were/are real, they were almost certain to have been photographed at the time of discovery, they would have been privately revealed to attract investor's. I would agree that the Cryptic Message carved on the stone was a faked embellishment to attract investment but not the filter drains or tunnels.
Any early pictures and dusty old records were kept in the late Dan Blankenship's filing cabinets down in his cellar. All those old records were later given to Rick Lagina, he probably still has those old files now, why not just politely ask him for the details on Facebook.

watched the episode 4/14

Well that is an hour of my life I won't get back!

Their projectile is perfectly cut on half but they said it was fired...

This road lines up with that road and nothing could ever be a coincidence

first the stone road make is in the 1400's and now the stone feature it is in the 1200's (13th century)

How long until it is BC and the ancient Egyptians...

Why would they build a road along all the lots rather than force everyone to go to their lot by boats....

The only thing they haven't said it was is aliens! They will continue this until both stars are dead and gone...

No.....if there's money in it, the heirs will take over the show. It's amazing to me how many gullible people they can rope into this farce. The pay must be good. Can I help? :laughing7:
