I dropped by the park just down the street from my son's middle school as the sun was setting, about 7:45. I'd intended to hit his schoolyard - this was the last day of school - but I found a huge "No trespassing, No loitering- this field is for school use only" sign in front of the field. Funny I'd never noticed that before. It's becoming impossible to search a school yard around here...
I hit the soccer fields first, and they were in use, so I worked the sidelines. Spectator kids sat down around me and commented on treasure and gold while I dug which was pretty funny. But, I was really feeling lost in terms of finding any loot.
It was a quarter to nine, and my kid hadn't eaten. I'd found .85, more or less. I had to go... 2nd time this parked had not produced much.
I had put my Ace 250 in the car when I glanced over at the basketball courts. Adults were playing. I watched them for a couple of minutes and got my detector out again. As I approached the court, I put her down and got erratic, bouncing tones all over the place. I set the sensitivity real low, and then I was relieved to see some good discrete signals.
Right off, I found a grommet. A moment later, a Nebraska Cornhuskers button - I'd thought it was a pinback, but it had a threaded socket on the back. I was feeling better. Then a quarter and the ace bandage clip. I was getting optimistic - all these items were probably lost by adults. I was right under the court light when I got another quarter hit. That was good, now I had enough to pay the gas. But the quarter turned out to be a fat sterling wedding band, 5.7 grams.
Yes!
