obsidian?? other rock??

Found in western mass. The "obsidian" was found in a loam pile and the other was found in a small stream. My daughter found the one that I think is some kind of micah and we are really interested in learning more about these rocks.

Umm, well, actually... it's not a rock made of the mineral Obsidian, it is the broken-off bottom of a Colonial Era through mid-1800s "black glass" bottle. Note the deep smooth conical depression in the center of one side and the corresponding smooth conical mound on the opposite side.

Sure does look like obsidian but I agree with Cannonballguy, obsidian wouldn't have that mound and depression like that. In my opinion a black glass bottle piece is even cooler!

I would go with the bottle bottom. Obsidian is not natural to Mass.

its is definitely not a glass bottle. although that's what I thought at first too. you cant see it in the pictures but where you are saying the bottom of the bottle is there is a large chunk sticking out and there is massive air bubble/dimple on the other side. Not the obvious one you can see in the pictures but another smaller deeper one. I wish it was that cool but I really don't think so
