Indeed a sad day for American and French forces.

May they rest in peace.

There's a memorial in Philadelphia to the Beirut Marines, Navy and Army dead. One of the Park guides was one of the last Marines out of there right after it happened. His unit lost a lot of good men. He tells an amazing story.
One of my brothers was offshore(Navy) at the time.
A fellow that graduated high school as I was entering died there. I didn't know him well, but I still think of him often. LCPL David L. Cosner, USMC

I remember that VERY well... I had just finished AF basic training and was still in school at Lackland AFB for training...

RIP
