I hope you all were able to get out and find some cool stuff today.

I had an out of town appointment today, and after that I decided to stop at a nearby river to check it out. The river was very beautiful, next time I will bring my camera to get some photos on site. Anyway I started hiking and looking around for items of interest. I noticed at some rock formations there were many lead fishing jigs visible, so I went back to the car and grabbed my Vibraprobe and a small rock pick and went to work. After three hours I ended up with 20 POUNDS of lead, including some musketballs, buck shot, and misc relics. Boy am I tired! :)

Wow, I also thought those big buckets were mostly musket balls!... my first reaction was that you might have discovered some sort of bizarre underwater battlefield. Nice haul either way. I just got back from my own local river where I always enjoy diggin' up some lead. Cheers!

At least you have to buy any fishing weights for a while

Oh my gosh thats alot of lead. Melt it all down and make some lead bars........and then imagine that they're silver ;D ;D

nice finds :)

are you going to scrap all that lead?

Said like a true fisherman, I agree. Or you could make friends by giving them to fishermen & you never know where that may lead ;) (hint more land)

Thats the way to do it. Clean out everything

melt all the lead into one big sinker, attach a big hook and go fishing for the big one-lol
nice cleanup of the mess, good for you

Yes, I will be melting it down and making things like duck decoy anchors to sell to duck hunters and what ever else I can think of. The lead weights are a real pollution issue around that river, it has affected the water quality. I had read about it but I needed to see it for myself for it to sink in. It has changed my thinking on using lead for fishing, as you can see all that lost lead does add up. Going forward I will use alternative metal sinkers. You can bet I will be going many more times to round up the lead and help clean up the river.

A lead honey hole, way to go! No telling what else is in those pockets.
